Language is one of the most important things to consider before choosing a study abroad d destination.  Heading to a country to study when you don’t have the basic knowledge of the language that is being used there is unwise and a waste of time and efforts.

Before you decide on your study abroad destination, it is best you do your research on the general language that is used in the country and also the languages that is offered in the institution you choose. Even if the institution offer courses in your home language, it is also best to have a basic understanding of the country’s general language that is used in the streets, supermarkets, malls, etc.

If you think you have the time and can grasp the basics of the language used in the chosen study abroad destination, there are tutorials or trainings that teaches languages which you can apply for.

The visa application varies depending on some key factors like; chosen destination, states, provinces, your citizenship, and your course of study.

Most international countries require a visa before you can come in to the county, and student are not excluded. But there are very few countries that don’t require a visa. And one of the countries that don’t require a visa for their three month course for international student is New Zealand.

In the case whereby you are unable to figure out a destination that doesn’t require a visa, you will have to specifically figure out the requirements and cost for the visa to add to your budgets.

When it comes to studying abroad, a lot of students consider the tuition fee for the course they intend studying as the only major costs to worry about.  But that shouldn’t be the only expenses you need to consider when preparing to study abroad. There are other expenses like, costs of living, accommodation, visas, travel, health, insurance services, etc.

If finance is a thing to worry about, you can consider applying for scholarships, go with universities that offers very cheap tuition fees, or even universities that are tuition free. This will help you cut costs and save money to attend to other expenses.

4. Academic/Entry Requirements

Academic requirements are also important things to consider before choosing a study abroad destination. Just like the education style in countries differ, so also are their academic equipments different. Your educational background, qualifications and records are of utmost importance when applying for a course abroad. If you don’t meet the necessary requirements for the course you intend studying, you are most likely not getting the course. So even if you have excellent academic records, you should look into the education system, years of education required, and work experience required, if any while choosing a course to study abroad.

Although the competition to gain a spot can be tough, but you are only given the opportunity to take tests when you meet the general requirements for the course.

5. Work Opportunities

Living and studying abroad incurs a lot of expenses. Hence, strains the individual’s finance. This is why most students who apply to study abroad wish to start working immediately when they get to the country. Once you know that you cannot fully cater for yourself and afford the costs of studying abroad, checking for possible work opportunities is also one of the key things to consider before choosing a a study abroad destination.

There are some institutions or courses that offer students opportunities to work part-time while studying, which you should take into consideration when applying for a course abroad.

And apart from the opportunity to work while studying, most students prefer a study abroad destination that will allow them work at least a few years after their graduation and if possible, give them a work permit in a long run.

6. Safety

There are some destinations that are known for a high level of crime rate. So, choosing to study in study abroad destinations like that is not a good idea. Look for places that offer top security to its inhabitants both in the university’s location, home areas or residence.  You wouldn’t want to study in a country where you will be worried about your safety everyday and not concentrate on your studies and work. And also, you wouldn’t want your family to be worried about you whereabouts every day.

7. Weather

The weather of the country you intend to study is also one of the things to consider before choosing a study abroad destination. In some places, the weather goes too extreme which you may not be able to cope with. When you research the year-round weather of a particular country you wish to study in and find out that you cannot cope with it due to personal reasons or health issues, the destination is not the perfect study abroad destination to go with.
