The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa is recruiting African graduates and undergraduates for its internship in Communication program.
The UNECA internship is for three (3) months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the Director. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. The intern will work for five days per week under the supervision of the Director.
About Multiple UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA)
In 1958 the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations established United Nations Economic Commission for Africa as one of the UN`s five regional commissions, ECA`s sanction is to foster intra-regional integration, to promote international cooperation for Africa`s development, and to promote the economic and social development of its members.
UNECA plays a dual role as a key component of the African institutional landscape and as a regional arm of the UN.ECA is well-strategized to make unique contributions to address the continent’s development challenges.
Furthermore, ECA is made up of 54 member states and derives strength from its role as the only UN agency mandated to operate at the regional and subregional levels to harness resources and bring them to bear on Africa’s priorities.
ECA’s main areas of focus are social development, governance, gender, innovation and technology, regional integration, and trade.
Requirements for UNECA Internship Program
To qualify for consideration for an internship by the United Nations Headquarters Internship Program, the following conditions must be met:
- Applications must meet one of the following educational requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
- 2) Be computer literate in standard software applications;
- 3) Have a demonstrated and keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- 4) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
